The Principal
A. Qualifications
The building principals shall have the general qualification of a teacher of the state.

B. Duties
(1) One shall be responsible to the superintendent of schools for all organizations, administration, and supervision within his building or buildings.
(2) One shall be responsible for all administrative detail relating to janitors and their work, and the maintenance of the school plant.
(3) One shall keep the superintendent completely and continuously informed as to the condition of the school plant and activities held there.
(4) One shall be responsible for assisting in the development of curriculums and in planning and adopting the courses of study to the needs and interests of the children.
(5) One shall be responsible for maintaining good public relations with the community and for utilizing fully the community resources to enrich the learning program.
(6) One shall be responsible for the assignment of the teaching staff within his building. He shall see that each staff member as an equitable amount of class and extra class work. He should not over-assign a willing teacher nor under-assign an unwilling teacher.
(7) One shall be responsible for the classification, promotion or retention of students within the building.
(8) One shall oversee the attendance, conduct and health of the pupils.
(9) One shall be responsible for the following:
(a) Fire drills
(b) School enterprises and activities
(c) Teachers’ meetings
(d) Orderly operation of lunch program
(10) One shall be responsible for all extracurricular activities in his school and shall have full authority to initiate, regulate or abolish the same. All school activities must have the principal’s sanction before being initiated.
(11) One is to report all cases of truancy or persistent absences to the superintendent and with him work out a solution.
(12) One shall permit no interviewing of pupils except by parents, legal guardians, or officers representing the law. In case of interviews by officers of the law, the principal shall be personally present.
(13) One shall report all cases of indigence to the superintendent where pupils are unable to buy required books, supplies, lunches, etc.
One shall perform such other duties as may be assigned by the superintendent of schools.
